The Gunners are currently suffering a striking crisis following the injury to Olivier Giroud, leaving them with just Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo, although Wenger has intimated that he will use both Joel Campbell and summer signing Alexis Sanchez up front as well.
However, Neville feels the North London side need more firepower if they are to compete with the strong squads at title favourites Chelsea and Man City.
According to Sky Sports, he said:
We thought even before Giroud got injured that Arsene Wenger would want to sign a top centre forward.
If we’re judging them on getting third or fourth place, then Arsenal might not have a problem. But if we’re judging them in terms of targeting a title, which I think is where Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal fans are at, then they’re going to have to sign a centre forward – and probably a central midfield player as well.
We’re imagining Alexis as someone who is going to be played as a wide forward but he can play as a centre forward; he is tough and durable. But you think they are going to need somebody, unless he’s going to put faith in Yaya Sanogo or Joel Campbell.

You have to say it’s potentially something that could cause them problems – and if you’re measuring them against Man City with Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, Arsenal start to look very light.
With Olivier Giroud set to be out for three to four months with a broken bone in his foot, manager Arsene Wenger will soon have to decide on whether or not to buy an additional striker before the deadline day comes to an end on Monday night.
Alexis Sanchez is definitely a world class forward, but is yet to prove his a consistent option as an out-and-out striker. At Everton as he was substituted at half time for Olivier Giroud. The complexion of the game changed completely when the Frenchman was introduced and suddenly the Gunners were able to find a target man and construct positive moves in and around the box. But credit to Alexis for a much improved performance in midweek against Besiktas when he scored the valuable winner.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Edison Cavani and Ramadel Falcao, but either of them would cost Wenger a fortune and I don’t think the French boss will be willing to do business in that price bracket. Alessio Cerci, Loic Remy and Danny Welbeck have also been linked and it remains to be seen who would eventually make the move, if any.
The North London club currently have Alexis, Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell, and the soon-to-be returning Theo Walcott up front. The line-up certainly looks very good, but obtaining a world-class center forward would give the Gunners a far greater injection to their title chances.
