We have been linked with a move for Nabil Fekir in recent months (via Sky Sports), with the French star setting Ligue 1 alight. We have suffered a huge blow in the hunt for his signature however, with Sky Sports reporting that he’s signed a new contract.

The 21-year-old was phenomenal last season, and was a huge part of Lyon’s title push. He has been rewarded with a new and improved five-year deal (via Sky Sports), which sees his current contract extended by a year.
He would have been an excellent acquisition, but he is arguably not what we need. His versatility means he can play in a number of forward positions, but he is most comfortable as an attacking midfielder. The youngster may well blossom into a top quality striker eventually, but for the moment he is more of an attacking mid – a position in which we are fully stocked.
A lengthy contract no longer means a player will necessarily stay put long term anymore, but if we were still keen on Fekir then we would have to pay through the nose to liberate him.
