It has been confirmed by Arsene Wenger today that we are on the verge of completing a deal for Polish midfielder Krystian Bielik, with just a medical preventing him from officially being announced as an Arsenal player.
With a deal looking close for days now, it was reported that Bielik was choosing between Arsenal and Bundesliga side Hamburg. It was an easy decision in the end however, with the 17-year-old keen to “be at the footballing top,” according to the Daily Star.
When asked why he chose to make the switch to the Emirates this January, the talented young defensive midfielder had nothing but good things to say about the club; although that was not the case for Hamburg.
“First of all, because of Arsene Wenger. He is a legend, ‘The Boss’ as they call him at Arsenal,” he said.
“In Hamburg, the team has a very young coach and their target for this season is to avoid the relegation from Bundesliga. This also had an impact.

“Certainly it will be harder for me to get through at Arsenal. But if I succeed in three or four years, I will be at the footballing top.
“After all, this is one of the best clubs in Europe and certainly better than Hamburg.
“I’m going to London to fulfil my dreams. I want to prove to the manager that he did not make a mistake by signing me.
“But it does not mean that my goal is playing in the first team right away. I’m not ready yet.”
It’s great to see he has such respect and admiration not only for Arsenal, but for Arsene Wenger too. And the fact that he is well aware it won’t be easy to break into the first team shows that he has his feet planted firmly on the ground.
Let’s just hope that Wenger is also aware that he is unlikely to be ready just yet, and is still in the market for a more experienced defensive midfielder.
