Newcastle have reportedly made a move for Jack Wilshere and Lucas Perez as they bid to strengthen their squad this season.
Rafael Benitez’s side are back in the Premier League but suffered a disappointing start with an opening day defeat to Tottenham.
According to The Mirror, the Toon have contacted Arsenal about landing the duo, with Benitez keen to do business.
Perez clearly has no future at Arsenal, although the club appear to be pricing him out of a move, and have already rejected several loan offers as they want a permanent deal.
Wenger has also admitted that Wilshere’s future is uncertain, which suggests he is also surplus to requirements at the club.
Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has spoken out recently to insist he does not have the finances to fund a spending spree, which means Newcastle may struggle to land the Arsenal pair.

Arsenal are believed to want £20m for Wilshere, which would surely rule Newcastle out of the running, although there is also reportedly interest from Swansea and clubs in Serie A.
Perez has also attracted interest from former side Deportivo, but again financing the deal is a problem for the Liga side.
Arsenal need to trim their squad, and reduce their wage bill, but so far this summer are struggling to offload their fringe players.
