Petr Cech is now officially an Arsenal player (via the BBC), and in one of his first interviews he has heaped praise on Arsene Wenger, as reported on Arsenal’s official website. He still clearly has a huge amount of respect for former boss Jose Mourinho though, and labeled him “one of the best managers in the world” (via the Express)
The Arsenal new boy claims he admires Wenger for the length of time he’s spent at one club, with only Sir Alex Ferguson bettering him in terms of longevity in the Premier League – with Mourinho rarely spending more than a couple of seasons at a club.
Cech also believes he shares many values with the Arsenal boss, insisting that both men have the same desire to win and to move forward.
“You have to admire his consistency, the calibre of his work [and] what he has done since he came to Arsenal,” Cech said.
“He is valued at Arsenal for the right reasons. Being in his position for such a long time is very rare, you saw it at Manchester United [with Sir Alex Ferguson] and at Arsenal but you don’t really see it anywhere else.

“When I spoke with him it was very important for me to know that I see things in pretty much the same way, with the desire to improve and to get better and to win things.”
He recognises how much appreciation we have for Wenger at the club, and clearly shares our sentiments. The Frenchman has split opinion at Arsenal over the years – especially during our financial struggles and trophy drought – but there are few who could achieve what he has achieved with the resources he’s achieved it with.
Signings have always been one of Arsene Wenger’s strong points, and he has unearthed a number of real gems during his time at the club. Cech certainly won’t be one of Wenger’s unearthed gems, but he will hopefully prove to be one of his best ever signings.
Cech also has nothing but good things to say about Mourinho unfortunately, despite the Portuguese manager claiming he wanted to block Cech’s North London switch – against his will if necessary (via Goal).
“Jose is one of the best managers in the world, our relationship hasn’t changed although he went with Thibaut Courtois last season,” he said, as quoted by the Express.
“But we respect each other. He made his decision and I made mine.
“We had a good chat – I know he wanted me to stay but that’s the way it goes.”
Although it’s strange to hear an Arsenal player full of praise for Mourinho, we have to expect it from a man who spent so many years playing under him.
