Eddie Nketiah has praised head coach Mikel Arteta for his belief in young players, claiming he always knew he had his backing (via Arsenal.com).
The big highlight of the season for Arsenal has been the role played by some of the younger breakthrough stars at the club.
Gabriel Martinelli, Joe Willock, and Bukayo Saka have put in some excellent performances over the season and another academy graduate grabbed a goal on Sunday.
Eddie Nketiah got his first Premier League goal at the Emirates and after the match, he spoke about the role Mikel Arteta has played in his season.
“I try to give my all in training and treat it as a game. He likes this mentality and obviously the quality I have, I try to showcase that. It’s just about working hard, I’m grateful he’s given me the opportunity he has and I just want to keep learning,” Arteta said after the game.
“He’s a great manager and has a real determination to help and improve players, young players and the senior players as well. I just want to keep learning of him, make sure my mentality is right each day and keep improving.
“He demands a lot from the players and as players we know where we need to improve. Obviously I know I have got a lot to improve on, I’m still a young player and a young striker, I have got a lot to learn and all I can do is keep the right attitude day in and day out.
“Mikel has got a lot of knowledge, he has played the game and knows exactly how he wants things done so it is just about learning, trusting him and taking in all the information he gives you. I really did believe he would give me opportunities if I continued to work hard.”
It’s clear that Mikel Arteta has the confidence of the young players. They know that if they work hard then the Spanish head coach will play them in the first-team. The fact that Nketiah stayed at the Emirates instead of heading back out on loan is proof of that.
