Ryan Bennett was seen unnecessarily shoving Alexis Sanchez after the ball had gone out of play during our 1-1 draw with Norwich, in an aggressive move that could have seriously injured the Chilean (before he got seriously injured later on in the game).
Piers Morgan was one of many Arsenal fans who was furious not only at the push, but that Bennett went unpunished for his actions. He made his thoughts known on Twitter, calling the Norwich man a half-wit for his shove on Alexis.
Bennett responded, with a rather sarcastic sounding “sorry mate”.
@piersmorgan sorry mate 😘

A push is not the worst offense in the world, and Alexis Sanchez seemed to escape relatively unscathed. It was the malicious and unnecessary nature of his actions that were the real issue though, as he could have done the 26-year-old some damage.
The ball was out of play and Alexis was in mid air; there was no need for Bennett to even touch him. Why he felt the need to push him into the cameraman’s pit is a mystery, and you can only assume he was looking to injure the Arsenal man.

We’ve seen the impact this kind of thing can have, as Mathieu Debuchy suffered a dislocated shoulder when Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic did something similar. Injuries are to be expected in football, but to go out of your way to cause another player pain just shows what a thug you are and gives you and your club a bad name.

It’s unclear whether being pushed into the cameraman had anything to do with Alexis Sanchez’s injury, but hopefully he’s back soon and ready for action. As long as he’s not out for too long, then perhaps the enforced rest will do him some good.
