Arsenal have confirmed that they have made their fifth signing of this summer transfer window with the acquisition of Matteo Guendouzi (via Arsenal.com).
For many Arsenal fans, this week was always going to be about Lucas Torreira and the announcement of the midfielder’s move to the Emirates.
However, today the club has announced that they signed another central midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi.
The 19-year-old Frenchman arrives from Lorient with a high reputation after being courted by a number of major European clubs.
Guendouzi has made 30 Ligue 1 appearances for Lorient as well as appearing at international level for various French youth teams.
“We are delighted Matteo is joining us,” said head coach Unai Emery of the transfer.

“He is a talented young player and a lot of clubs were interested in him. He has big potential and gained good first-team experience last season with Lorient.
“He wants to learn and improve and will be an important part of our first-team squad.”
It’s good to see that Arsenal are still signing younger, up-and-coming talents to match the more experienced summer acquisitions. GFFN has written in detail about what Arsenal fans can expect of Matteo Guendouzi in the coming years and, hopefully, he can reach his clearly high talent ceiling. The deal is believed to be in the region of €8 million and Guendouzi will wear the number 29 shirt.
