Arsenal have completed their second loaning in consecutive days as Johan Djourou joins Mauroane Chamakh on the temporary departure list Arsenal’s official website have confirmed.
The Swiss international has only managed two appearances this season, both in the Capital One Cup as he dropped behind the likes of captain Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the pecking order.
The 25-year-old is itching for more game time after growing frustrated at failing to make the squad of late, so a loan move will suit Djourou as his international spot is in jeopardy.
He will join the Bundesliga club immediately for the remainder of the season and Hannover’s general manager Jorg Schmadtke believes the Switzerland international will benefit the side that are currently sitting mid table, he said:
Johan Djourou is a professional with international experience. We are convinced he can help us on short term. He meets our requirements, as he can also play Europa League.
Hannover coach Mirko Slomka added:
We needed to do something in defence after the injuries Felipe and Leon Andreasen suffered. It’s my personal conviction that, with his robustness, his tactical understanding and his willingness, he will be able to help us.
Come summertime Djourou will be expecting to find a new home as he seems well and truly out of Wenger’s plans. The loan move will help the Swiss to gain more confidence and regain form while for Arsenal it means a potentially increased price tag and exposure for the player.
He has struggled to make a real impression as a first team regular after numerous mistakes and mixed performances as a make shift right back last season, but he has been a Gunner for over 10 years so best of luck to Djourou and may the loan spell prove fruitful.
