Congratulations to our young, English centre back Kyle Bartley as he has signed a new contract at the Emirates that will keep him in north London until 2014.
Bartley spent spells on loan with npower Championship outfit Sheffield United and then Scottish Premier League champions Rangers last season, making 32 appearances overall.
The former reserve-team captain and FA Youth Cup winner did feature in Sunday’s Emirates Cup clash with New York Red Bulls, unfortunately he did concede an own goal but really it was not his fault and was just plain unfortunate. He does feel that he is ready for the first team however, which is encouraging for Arsenal, as he adds a unique combination of brute strength and height.
‘If I’m honest, I don’t think I was anywhere near the level to play for Arsenal last season.
‘But I’ve come back, I feel really strong and I feel that I am ready now.
‘I am a little bit different to the other centre-backs. I like the physical side of the game and I see myself as a leader.

‘If Arsene decides that he wants me in the first team then that will be fantastic,’ he told the club’s official website.
So again congratulations to Kyle, however he has a lot of competition to fight with to gain places as he currently sits behind Vermaelen, Koscielny, Djourou, Squillaci and the Spanish youngster Miquel. Maybe a few Carling Cup appearances are in order?
