Manchester City have made an official £25m plus add-ons bid for Raheem Sterling, but Liverpool have flatly rejected the advances of their Premier League rivals, BBC Sport confirms…
The report claims that Liverpool are holding out for at least £50m, and that we are also in the running for his signature.
City’s bid means that the Sky Blues are definitely interested, but we’re now in a position where we can splash big money on individuals, and can financially compete with rich sides for top talent.
Spending £50m on Sterling though would be a huge risk… He’s talented, but that kind of money should only be spent on world-class players who’ve proven it. Sterling’s 20, hasn’t won anything, has scored just one international goal – and frankly – his attitude worries us.
If his agent is willing to stir things in the media, like the way he said his client would turn down £900k-per-week (via Evening Standard) then maybe we should be approaching this one with caution…
It’s more important that we spend our summer budget on an out and out centre forward and an anchorman.
