Gunners left back Andre Santos has officially joined Brazilian side Gremio for the remainder of the season.
The 29-year-old Brazil international featured 36 times for Arsenal since joining on the final day of the transfer window in August 2011, and started his career in North London with a bang. In his second and third matches he netted crucial goals against Olympiacos and Chelsea making him an instant hit with the fans. He even scored another important goal in the final day 3-2 over West Brom to secure UCL qualification.
However his erratic defensive work started to raise question marks over his ability to be a solid left back. This was forever present this season when first choice Kieran Gibbs was unavailable, and Santos was involved in some matches to forget against Manchester United and Brighton.
While Santos has given his upmost best for the Club this is the best outcome for all parties especially with Nacho Monreal acquired last month to provide a higher quality competitor to Gibbs for the left back position.
Arsenal’s official website released the following statement:
An experienced Brazil international, Santos has previously enjoyed success in Turkey with Fenerbahce and in Brazil with Corinthians, Atletico Mineiro, Flamengo and Figueirense.

After finding opportunities limited this term, Santos now returns to Brazil’s Serie A – the Brasileirao – for more regular first-team football.
Everyone wishes Andre well for his time with the Tricolor.
