On-loan midfielder Jon Toral scored an impressive hat-trick for Brentford last night, almost four years to the day from when he signed for Arsenal.
You’d be forgiven for thinking the former Barcelona man had been quietly moved on like so many others – Wellington Silva, Thomas Eisfeld et al – but the now 20-year-old is still plugging away trying to kick start his Arsenal career.
And this certainly won’t do him any harm, knocking three past Blackpool in a 4-0 rout for the Bees.
Injuries have forced Toral’s progression to the first team to stagnate since he arrived from Barcelona in 2011 with Hector Bellerin.
And much to everyone’s surprise it’s actually been the then less heralded Bellerin who has managed to break into the Arsenal first XI soonest, becoming almost the direct competition to Mathieu Debuchy for right-back.

Toral will seemingly get his chance to prove he can make the leap to the Arsenal first team in pre-season but until then we can just enjoy his displays such as this.
