The summer transfer window is almost upon us, and the general consensus is that we need a few big signings when it eventually opens. A striker is likely to be one of our main targets, as the burden has often been placed almost exclusively on the shoulders of Olivier Giroud – and we have visibly struggled when he is absent.
We are at a point where only top quality players will improve the squad, so we need to be aiming for top tier forwards.
With that in mind, here are six strikers that we should be targeting this summer:

We have been repeatedly linked with a move for the young Argentine, who would offer something very different to the likes of Olivier Giroud.
He is relatively unproven though, and when you consider the high transfer fee he would presumably command, the 21-year-old would seem a huge risk.
The Palermo striker has been in fine form this season, but still seems like one for the future rather than someone who can come in and dominate straight away.
5) Jackson Martinez

One of the safer options, even if not the most exciting prospect. The 28-year-old has been fantastic for Porto, and shone on their decent run to the Champions League quarterfinals this season.
He is a real goalscorer, and certainly looks to have all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League. Other than goals, the Colombian doesn’t offer much else to the side however, which is something we demand of our forwards at the moment. Olivier Giroud has been in fine goalscoring form, but arguably his biggest strengths are his holdup play, his link up play, and the ability to bring his teammates into the game.
Porto are known for demanding very high fees for their better players, so it’d be debatable whether it would be worth splashing out serious cash on someone not too far away from 30.
