Mesut Özil has once again been linked with a move away from Arsenal, and once again the German playmaker has committed himself to Arsenal.
The World Cup winner recently spoke about his admiration for Zinedine Zidane, the Real Madrid legend who has now replaced Rafa Benitez as manager of the Spanish club.
He insists that his appreciation of the French genius is in no way a signal that he’s looking to make a move back to the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Zidane was an amazing player,” he told German publication Spox. “He did not just play football, but lived for the game. I got to know him after his active career as someone who is always willing to lend a hand.
“But that does not say anything about my future.
“I am only thinking about Arsenal. There is no truth in the speculation linking me with a return to Spain.

“I have watched a lot of games involving Zidane. He was one of the most clever players in the world.
“He was able to read the game and direct play without any unnecessary tricks and showboating. That’s what makes him so special.”
Özil clearly sees a lot of himself in Zidane, with both men known for their creative genius. Adoration for a player is not a reason to switch clubs though, and Özil clearly recognises that.
The reports linking the playmaker with an exit – especially a return to Real Madrid – have been met with scepticism, and understandably so. It’s often been a case of two plus two making five, and this is no different.
Özil has consistently committed himself to both Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, but despite that Arsenal fans are still a little worried that our failures will force him to consider his future.
