Alexis Sanchez is in a race against time to be fit for our clash with Manchester City this Monday evening, and is hoping he’ll get a late birthday present by being passed fit for the game. Mesut Özil wished the Chilean happy birthday ahead of the match, and would no doubt love to see him back in action on Monday.
The German has been in fine form this season and has been assisting for fun whenever he takes to the field. Alexis Sanchez hasn’t quite hit the levels he showed in his debut season at the club, but he’s still been a key part of our setup this campaign.
The likes of Joel Campbell and Theo Walcott have been stepping up in Alexis’ absence, but the former Barcelona star returning to the side would still be a huge boon. His work-rate, eye for goal, and indescribable quality would be invaluable in our bid to topple Manuel Pellegrini’s side, and he has an excellent understanding with Özil already.
The playmaker took to Instagram to deliver the message, with Arsenal fans joining him in wishing Alexis a happy birthday:
A win against City would be a real statement, and would open up a bit of a gap between us and arguably our closest title rivals. Leicester City will still retain top spot after their win against Everton, but you have to believe that they’ll drop off the pace a bit before the end of the campaign.

It would be excellent to see Alexis return this Monday, but only if he’s fully fit and ready for action. We don’t want to rush him back for the sake of one game, even if it is the definition of a six pointer. Alexis and Özil are likely to prove key in any title push we look to mount, and we need both of them fit for as much of the campaign as possible.
