Mesut Özil has heaped praise on Alex Iwobi and Serge Gnabry during an interview with Arsenal magazine, suggesting that both players unquestionably have what it takes to succeed at Arsenal.
Iwobi has shown recently that he has what it takes to more than compete with the senior players for a starting spot, but it wasn’t all that long ago that Gnabry looked like doing the same thing. The young Nigerian international needs to make sure he makes the most of this opportunity, and doesn’t sink back into relative obscurity.
Özil certainly seems to think they can make it though, and highlighted the quality both players possess.
“When I consider their age and that they’ve come through at a club like Arsenal, I think they are on a good path,” he said.
“They prove themselves in training, they are good on the ball. Alex Iwobi has amazed me with the way he’s performed for the first team recently.
“Then there’s Serge Gnabry, who I like a lot as a player. He’s really robust, very determined and with a real will to win. I think they can really achieve a lot.”

Gnabry looked like breaking into the first team on a regular basis a couple of seasons ago, but injuries and indifferent form saw him drop out of the squad. He’s struggled for fitness and has been farmed out on loan, but looks like he’s ready to fight for his place once again.
The German youngster has been fantastic for the U21s recently, scoring regularly and running the show. It’s obviously a big step up to the senior side, but we’ve seen in the past that he’s got what it takes.

Hopefully Iwobi doesn’t suffer the same bad luck with injuries, and is able to continue his meteoric rise to stardom.
