Mesut Özil has recently been linked with a ridiculous move back to Real Madrid (via ESPN), but the rumours have predictably already been quashed, with the German international instead tipped to sign a bumper new contract with Arsenal, as reported by the Metro.
The 27-year-old is in the form of his career at the moment, and has unquestionably been the best playmaker in the Premier League this season – perhaps even the world.
It’s understandable that the top teams in the game would want him in their side, and while a bizarre thought, it’s not totally out of this world to think Real Madrid would want him back.
The report from TMW (via the Metro) suggests he’s on the verge of a new £8.2m per year contract however, putting an end to any transfer speculation. This would be a record breaking contract for Arsenal, who have never offered a player a deal so big.
Özil still has plenty of time left on his current deal, but Arsene Wenger is clearly looking to keep him tied down for the foreseeable future. We can’t afford to lose our star players anymore, and Özil is certainly one of our biggest stars.
He’s been the main reason for our success this season, and has been setting records in the Premier League with his assists. He’s on course to break more records if he keeps going at this rate, and is finally getting the plaudits he deserves.

It would be great to see his contract sorted out as soon as possible, so he can focus on being the best No.10 he can possibly be. We need him at his peak if we’re going to win the title this season, and we’ll need the entire team to match his quality if we want to beat Barcelona in the Champions League.
