Mesut Ozil has thanked Ludogorets for their Champions League ‘assist’ after their surprise draw at PSG on Tuesday night, coupled with Arsenal’s win over Basel saw the Gunners finish as Group A winners.
Unai Emery’s side had been expected to progress as group winners after November’s 2-2 draw at the Emirates courtesy of a better head-to-head record between the two sides.
However, the Bulgarian minnows pulled off a shock by securing a 2-2 draw at Parc des Princes with the hosts even needing a late Angel Di Maria goal to secure a draw, after twice going behind.
Arsenal in stark contrast enjoyed a comfortable evening in Switzerland with Lucas Perez putting the visitors into a 2-0 lead after just 16 minutes.
The summer signing then completed his hat-trick before Alex Iwobi bagged a fourth as the Gunners cruised through as group winners.
Ozil took to Twitter after the game to post the message: “Group winners! Thanks for the assist @Ludogorets1945! #YaGunnersYa #FCBvAFC @Arsenal.”
