Mesut Özil picked up an ankle injury against Everton and was a doubt for Germany’s clash with England this weekend, he has now assured fans of both club and country that he’s fully fit though, talking to German publication Bild.
As the report suggests, he missed training with the national side ahead of the game, which only served to increase speculation about the injury. He’s confirmed that the injury was not a serious one though, and that he’s available for selection this weekend.
“Everything was good, I’m fit for the weekend,” he said.
We’d probably prefer if Özil weren’t in action during the international break, as it would be great for us if he were to be rested. He’s played a huge number of games this season, and we really need him at his best heading into the tail end of the campaign.
Both England and Germany will obviously want to play close to their strongest sides this weekend, as it’s one of the last chances to test their squads ahead of the Euro 2016 Championships. Hopefully they won’t rush Özil back though, and at the very least play him off the bench rather than starting him against England.

From the moment it happened Özil’s injury didn’t look a particularly serious one, so with the international break ahead of us it seemed unlikely he would be unavailable for our next game against Watford. It’s still great to hear that he’s over the injury though, and hopefully he can help us make one final push in the league.
