Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has assured the fans that the team will be looking to put on their best performance against Manchester United and secure all three points. The Gunners have struggled at home so far this season, drawing against Liverpool and losing to West Ham and Olympiacos. However, Ozil believes that the players will be able to live up to expectations against the table toppers United (via Arsenal.com).
The German international added that the big games were exciting for both the fans – who get to watch the best players compete – and the players, who get a chance to prove themselves on the biggest stage. He went on to describe the satisfaction of winning a big game and the massive confidence boost it provided, while speaking with Arsenal Player:
You always watch these games. I didn’t just watch matches between Arsenal and Manchester United, I watched all the big teams playing against each other because I always wanted to watch the best players trying to prove themselves. That’s how it will be this time too.
Back then I would enjoy watching players like Henry, Bergkamp, Ljungberg and Pires. I think it’s very exciting for the fans when two such big teams play against each other.
The anticipation and the expectation is obviously big. We just want to prove ourselves and get the three points.
When you prove yourself against big teams, your self-belief increases because you believe in yourself more. We’ll show that against Manchester United.
If you look at our team, in the last few weeks we’ve been weakened by red cards. But if we can prevent that, I’m convinced that we can do well against big teams.
Ozil has not really performed up to his usual levels this season, and has struggled to make an impact on the game sometimes. Against Leicester however, he showed some flashes of brilliance and hopefully his League form will continue against United as well. The team definitely understand the importance of the upcoming game and the value of a victory against the Red Devils.

As for the red cards, in all cases they have been our fault. Cazorla and Gabriel need to keep better control of themselves, and as for Giroud, well, he’s not exactly having a pleasant time. The manager seems to be losing patience with his players’ discipline however, and maybe the long awaited changes in mentality are going to come soon.
