The 29-year-old midfielder has been a regular in the Gunners first team this season, helping Arsene Wenger’s men top the Premier League table after seven games.
When Flamini was re-signed earlier in the summer many eyebrows were raised. However a quick glance at his contribution to the team this season will show how good a signing he has been. The 29 year old has anchored the midfield really well, breaking up the opponents attacks, getting his hands dirty when necessary and also distrusting well with his short and simple passes.
Parlour feels the Frenchman’s excellent displays as the defensive shield has been the key to the north London side’s success so far this term.
Speaking to Arsenal official website, he said:
Flamini has been very important. At times over the last few seasons when Arsenal have broke forward they look great but when they lose the ball they have been very open in midfield. Good teams will exploit that.
He’s always in those areas where the ball breaks loose and is always trying to win the ball back. He then moves it quickly to the likes of Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil who can really do something with the ball.

He did that really well before he left. Now he’s doing exactly the same and he’s a very important player to have in there because you can see [Per] Mertesacker and [Laurent] Koscielny really enjoying their football because they have got Flamini in front of them.
He’s doing a great job shielding them because at times they do look a bit open when they play with all the attacking players they have got.
What I like about him is that he’s been bossing a few players about and you need players like that.
We had Patrick Vieira doing it when I played and I did it myself, telling other players to get back in position before you can have a rest.
I think Flamini has been really good on that side of the game which is a massive thing for the Club because he’s experienced and he’s been there and done it. I think the players have really responded to him by improving their positioning.
The likes of Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have been in brilliant form, part of which can be credited to Flamini. The burden of defensive responsibility has been lifted from their shoulders as they now have much more freedom to express themselves, get into the final third and link up with the widemen and Giroud, which so far they have done brilliantly.
They are still doing their job defensively, but they know that Flamini will always be there to either buy them some extra time to get back or break down the attack as part of the defensive unit. He has been a major factory in helping us to the top of the table and he will be crucial if Arsenal want to end their trophy drought.
