Reports have surfaced claiming Patrick Vieira could be about to leave Manchester City this summer when his contract expires.
The legendary Arsenal captain finished his playing career with the petro-fuelled Premier League champions in 2011 and joined their backroom staff as a Football Development Executive before becoming a the Head of their Elite Development Squad in 2013.
But if this latest report from the Telegraph is to be believed and Vieira could be about to exit the Etihad, then Arsenal surely have to pounce.
No, it’s not because after close to ten years since he left north London we have still (!) somehow failed to adequately replace him, though we’d be lying if we said we weren’t tempted to sign him just to show the current crop how it’s done. Francis Coquelin has been a revelation in midfield, but he was sent on loan to Charlton Athletic earlier in the season, and only brought back when we suffered our annual injury crisis. He’s been great, but he’s still a very long way from Vieira’s standard.

However, it would be superb to see Vieira at Arsenal because it just feels right.
After so many years apart, in AllArsenal’s head we see Vieira and the entire Arsenal fancies running toward each other in fields of green; it’s slow motion, there’s tears streaming down our faces and the emotional overtures are playing.
But seriously, it doesn’t matter what role it is, he can be tea-lady if there’s a vacancy there but just bring Paddy home!
