Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has blamed Arsene Wenger for Jack Wilshere’s lack of progress before the game against Manchester City, but was made to eat his words after the youngster put in a Man of the Match performance against the Citizens.
The 22 year old made his first-team debut for Arsenal aged 16 and was tipped for great things, but has since has come in for a barrage of criticism recently with former players questioning his ability to become the great midfielder everyone had tipped him to be.
Ahead of Arsenal’s match with Manchester City on Saturday, Scholes criticised the Englishman for forcing the play and stated that Arsene Wenger should take part of the blame.
According to Daily Mail, he said:
I don’t really know. Is he a holding midfield player or an attacking player? I think he’s confused.
I think he’s a frustrated figure at the moment. He’s trying to force the play.
He needs a similar meeting as Ramsey did with Arsene Wenger. He needs to simplify his game.

Wenger has to be blamed, he’s the manager. I don’t know how much work he does with him, but I’m not sure he does enough.
He has fallen so far behind Aaron Ramsey. They’re trying to find a position for him and I don’t know what it is.
The former England midfielder, who is currently a TV pundit, was left red-faced after Wilshere put in a man-of-the-match performance against the Premier League champions. He said:
It shows he’s an attacking midfielder capable of doing it at the highest level. It’s still early in the season, time will tell.
‘What he has done is made a great start to the season, now he’s got the base to go on and have a good season.
There was a lot of debate about Wilshere failing to fulfil his potential over the last few seasons and with a long patch of poor form, he was becoming a critic favourite. However he showed he’s up for the fight as the midfielder finally delivered a performance to match his great potential.
He was the standout player for the Gunners against Manchester City in an entertaining encounter at the Emirates Stadium. He had a frustrating first half, but the young England international showed some character and come out for the second half a changed man.
He didn’t hide from possession and upped the tempo by trying to drive his team forward and this culminated in a delicious chipped finish over Joe Hart to equalise, while it was his desire to win a dropping ball in the edge of the area that set up Sanchez for the second, his header guided perfectly to his teammate.
It was the most impressive performance Wilshere has made for some time and there will be few sights delighting the Gunners faithful more than seeing their favourite youngster reach his potential.
