It’s long been suggested that we were looking to sign Borussia Monchengladbach’s Granit Xhaka, and the reports are now claiming personal terms have been agreed, according to Goal.
The deal is apparently as good as done, although the Bundesliga side are looking to ensure they have a replacement lined up before they let Xhaka go. The 23-year-old looks destined to leave the club this summer, but it would obviously strengthen Gladbach’s hand were they to be looking to make signings while he’s still at the club, as opposed to appearing desperate to fill the gap left by the Swiss international after his departure.
The transfer fee being touted is €43M, which we know we can more than afford when you consider Arsene Wenger’s recent comments about the bottomless bank account (via The Evening Standard).
Goal’s report suggests a deal should be done before the Euro 2016 Championships kick off this summer, with Xhaka almost certainly set to be unveiled as our first summer signing. Hopefully there will be at least a couple more names joining the talented midfielder too, with Wenger needing to make a number of top quality signings to appease the fans.

This season was a fantastic chance for us to finally put our Premier League title drought to rest, with the English top flight thrown into a state of chaos thanks to the bizarre form of Leicester City, Chelsea, and a number of other teams. The fact that we failed to capitalise once again puts even more pressure on Arsenal and Arsene Wenger ahead of next season, and if the Frenchman yet again fails to strengthen adequately there will be outrage.
