Arsenal legend and former midfielder Robert Pires believes the Gunners are in dire need of a new striker in the summer transfer window.
Wenger has been largely reliant on Olivier Giroud to lead the Gunners line this season, with the French forward having netted 19 goals in all competitions.
The former midfielder feels that the north London side lack a world-class forward to help them end their long wait for a trophy.
According to Sky Sports, he said:
It’s very important to buy the other striker because maybe you can play 4-4-2. The priority must be a new striker to play with Olivier Giroud.
For the moment, it’s a good season. They are fourth and they are playing against Wigan in the semi-final of the FA Cup.
On Saturday, against Manchester City, it’s like a final for the future. If Arsenal win, it’s possible to win the title. You never know when you’re talking about football.

I always believe in Arsene Wenger, in this team and the players themselves. I’m confident for Arsenal.
If we lose against Manchester City, the season is finished in terms of the Premier League.
Olivier Giroud has at times done brilliantly, but there are other occasions when the France international’s deficiencies have held the Gunners back. It may sound extremely harsh criticism of a player who has scored 19 goals this season, but the North London club needed someone better as Giroud is a shade behind the league’s top marksmen.
The Frenchman is a target man, but the Gunners need a pacey striker to go with the physicality of Giroud. There are a number of strikers who will fit that role, such as Diego Costa and Jackson Martinez. They have impressed in European football in recent seasons and would no doubt thrive on playing for a team like Arsenal.
There have been some reports that Wenger will be given a big transfer kitty in the summer and he needs to splash the cash on a big name striker. This season has proved that Arsenal’s front-line is not yet good enough to compete for the Premier League title and with a few quality additions this summer maybe they will be.
