Robert Pires believes that Mesut Ozil’s downturn in form and refusal to sign a new contract at Arsenal is down to frustration over the team around him (via Sport Witness).
The Mesut Ozil at Real Madrid is a lot different to the one at Arsenal right now. Anyone who watched both teams would be forgiven for thinking that there are two different players called Mesut Ozil.
Admittedly, the Real Madrid side of the time boasted players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Kaka who were all a few notches higher than most of this Arsenal squad.
Now, Ozil is refusing to sign a new deal at the club and is reportedly looking for a January exit and one Arsenal legend thinks he knows the reason why.
“Ozil is a warrior who wants to win something,” claimed Robert Pires in an interview with SportBild.

“To me, he seems so angry about the fact that Arsenal hasn’t put together the team with which he can make a difference.
“Arsenal has spent money only for Alexander Lacazette, €53m. That is not enough to be at the top.”
Pires was a crucial part of that incredible Invincibles team in 2003-04, the last time Arsenal won the Premier League title. The winger also went onto say why he thought that was.
“It is incredibly hard to stay at the top in England. But I still believe in Arsenal and, above all, Arsene Wenger. I find it right that he has extended for two years.”
It’s pretty clear that Real Madrid had a better side in 2013 than Arsenal have now which is perhaps one of the reasons Mesut Ozil would like to leave. He’s a player who needs great players around him and there has been a significant lack of quality in the signings made by Arsene Wenger since the German’s arrival.
