A great first half performance was all for naught as we conceded two really sloppy goals in the last 30 minutes of the game, with the second leg at the Nou Camp looking like a waste of time already.
It was always going to be a big ask to get anything from the game, but after getting our tactics so right for so long it was really disappointing to concede the way we did.
Here’s how we rate the players from our 2-0 loss against Barcelona:
GK) Petr Cech – 7.0
Couldn’t do anything for either of the goals, made a couple of decent saves to make sure things didn’t get any worse. He can no longer say he’s never conceded against Lionel Messi.

RB) Hector Bellerin – 7.5
A fantastic defensive performance, incredibly disciplined and kept Neymar in check for most of the night.
LB) Nacho Monreal – 7.0
After being a little unlucky to get a yellow card for a slip early on, he put in a great defensive performance for much of the game. Unfortunately, he was one of many responsible for conceding the opening goal. He left Lionel Messi free and in the clear to receive a pass from Neymar, with the Argentine chipping Cech to score.
CB) Per Mertesacker – 6.0
Some great blocks and interceptions in the first half, and his score would have been far, far higher at the midway point of the match. But his poor decision to push up past the half way line but then fail to apply pressure resulted in the first goal, and his poor pass in our own box caused Mathieu Flamini to make a shocking challenge and give away a penalty.
CB) Laurent Koscielny – 7.5
The Frenchman pushed out when required, marshalled Lionel Messi superbly, and didn’t deserve to be on the end of a 2-0 loss.
