A dubious decision from the referee not to award a stone cold penalty ruined Arsenal’s chances of winning the Emirates Cup. But Arsenal shouldn’t have conceded from the set piece and failed to capitalize on some promising situations. Shouldn’t be too worries though.
Congratulations to Valencia though. Here are the player ratings:
Szczesny 6.5: Little he could do about the goal and wasn’t tested too often.
Debuchy 7.0: Offered plenty going forward and was solid at the back. An encouraging debut. Replaced after getting a knock late on.
Koscielny 6.0: Terrible organization for the Falcao goal, should have stuck with his man and appealed for offside later. Cost us the game. But made some better tackles later on, can’t be too harsh on him after returning only recently.

Chambers 7.0: The Englishman did well and will probably partner Kosc next week. Looks composed at centre half. Replaced by Miquel at halftime.
Monreal 6.5: Not much happened down his flank but did an okay job when called upon. Got forward when he could, but Gibbs still first choice for me.
Arteta 7.0: Solid performance spraying the ball around well. Typical Arteta really.
Wilshere 6.0: The Englishman was heavily involved in the first half, comfortable in possession and worked it round nicely. Should’ve done better with his chance in the first half even if it was offside, and a shocking tackle on the Monaco No7. Still leaves a little to be desired, but he’s only getting back into the swing of things.
Ramsey 6.0: Quiet game from the Welsh Wizard but worked hard.
Cazorla 6.5: Our tricky Spaniard tried to get things going, beautiful flick for Wilshere’s chance in the second half. Faded like the rest of the side though and was replaced with twenty to go.
Alexis 6.5: Clearly lacking some sharpness but looks very exciting. Like Ozil, he gets things going when in possession. Played the second half up front and looked good in patches. Replaced later on.
Giroud 5.0: Not the best perfomance from the Frenchman, some good hold up play at times, a couple of nice flicks but lacked any sort of penetration and was offside far to often. Replaced at halftime.
Ox 6.5: Entered for Giroud at halftime and was brilliant early on. Faded later on though.
Miquel 6.0: Subbed for Chambers and positionally wasn’t as aware as the Englishman. Struggle to see him involved this season if we buy another defender, but he’s a handy player to have as a squad member if he’s willing.
Zelalem 7.5: Came on around the 72′ for Wilshere. Excellent. Some nice passes, great through balls and looks the real deal. Needs to beef up a little, too easily pushed off the ball but a star in the making.
Akpom 7.0: subbed on for Santi and an instant impact with his pace and smart run winning a free kick of the edge of the box which should’ve been a penalty.
Flamini 6.0: entered for Alexis and solidified the midfield. Didn’t help us find an equalizer though. Another ‘rash’ challenge, another yellow.
Bellerin N/A: Came on with a few minutes to go.
