Arsenal secured their first home defeat of the season to put Emery on the brink.
Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Arsenal v Eintracht Frankfurt
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 20:00 28/11/2019
Here’s how we rate Unai Emery and the Arsenal players:
Unai Emery: 3
The starting XI raised a few eyebrows with Nicolas Pepe still on the bench and a midfield two of David Luiz and Granit Xhaka. Unai Emery’s substitutions barely improved matters with no recognisable game plan.
Emiliano Martinez – 5
He didn’t do too badly. Emiliano Martinez can’t complain about the Frankfurt goals and he made a couple of really important saves.
Calum Chambers – 5
He lost the ball a few more times than he should’ve but Calum Chambers defended reasonably well.
Shkodran Mustafi – 5
He was okay. Shkodran Mustafi continued his decent form in cup competitions.
Sub: Lucas Torreira (76′) – 4
He hardly convinced in midfield.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 3
A really poor night for Sokratis. The former Dortmund man was error-prone throughout, no more so than when he gifted the ball away to start the move which led to Frankfurt’s second goal.
Kieran Tierney – 5
Kieran Tierney was okay. He worked hard in defence but didn’t have much of an opportunity further up the field.
David Luiz – 5
It was interesting watching David Luiz in midfield. He started the match reasonably well but understandably, his performance level dropped after picking up that knock.
Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (32′) – 3
Matteo Guendouzi couldn’t get it right tonight. The Frenchman looked tired and leggy without being effective in either half. He was sloppy on the ball and lethargic without it. He didn’t look fit.
Granit Xhaka – 4
There was some definite rust in his game but Granit Xhaka did okay. The spotlight was on him and his return to the team but he took it in his stride.
Joe Willock – 5
He did fairly well. Joe Willock had some nice touches in both areas of the pitch but he was let down by his end product. The Englishman should’ve added at least one goal to his tally this evening.
Bukayo Saka – 4
He was poor. Things just didn’t work out for Bukayo Saka this evening whatever he tried to do.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 4
He grabbed the opening goal but his performance hardly deserved it. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang drifted in and out of this one but, in all honesty, he spent more time out of it.
Gabriel Martinelli – 4
Things didn’t click for the impressive Brazilian this evening. Gabriel Martinelli barely had a sniff in front of goal.
Sub: Mesut Ozil (60′) – 3
Barely involved. Mesut Ozil had 30 minutes to make an impression but he didn’t influence the match at all.
