Player ratings as Arsenal squandered a two-goal lead to draw against Crystal Palace at the Emirates.
Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Arsenal v Crystal Palace
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (UK Time): 16:30 27/10/2019
Here’s how we rate the Arsenal players and management:
Unai Emery – 2
It was another damaging night for Unai Emery. His setup didn’t get the best out of the players as the Gunners failed to create chances and conceded too much at the other end. Arsenal had to rely on set pieces and the controversy of the match will shield what was a really poor performance.
Bernd Leno – 5
He’s played better. Bernd Leno could’ve done a little more to keep out Palace’s second goal but the German did make a couple of decent saves.
Calum Chambers – 4
It was a poor performance from Calum Chambers. The Englishman stood up to the test of Wilfried Zaha at times but was penalised for a poor challenge on him which led to the penalty. His final delivery was toothless and he was caught out of position on a number of occasions.
Sokratis Papstathopoulos – 6
It was a strange performance from Sokratis. The Greek defender grabbed the opening goal and very nearly added a second but it was hardly his best performance. The former Dortmund man was a little sloppy defensively and took up some unusual positions with and without the ball.
David Luiz – 5
He grabbed a goal but he had a poor evening. David Luiz won’t be overly pleased with his night.
Kieran Tierney – 5.5
It was a steady Premier League debut from Kieran Tierney. It wasn’t his best performance in an Arsenal shirt with some poor final balls and the odd lapse in defensive positioning. Still, he’s certainly not at full fitness and there was a lot for him to build on.
Sub: Sead Kolasinac (75′) – 5
He was fine.
Granit Xhaka – 4
Granit Xhaka will grab the headlines from this match. It was classless of the crowd to boo their own player but the player’s response was even worse. On the pitch, it wasn’t the worst performance of his career but he hardly dominated the midfield battle.
Sub: Bukayo Saka (60′) – 5
Matteo Guendouzi – 5
He was poor. Matteo Guendouzi just couldn’t get going in the centre of the park which is where Arsenal lost this match. He was
Dani Ceballos – 4.5
Again, Dani Ceballos didn’t have his best night. The Spaniard’s passing in the final third was really disappointing with some balls that just didn’t work out.
Nicolas Pepe – 7
He was Arsenal’s best player on the night. Nicolas Pepe shone in every area he popped up in both with the ball and without. He was hardworking and full of energy on the ball. Both of Arsenal’s goals came from his set-piece deliveries to cap a solid night. He was just a whisker away from grabbing a goal in the first half.
Alexandre Lacazette – 5
Alexandre Lacazette had his moments. The Frenchman impressed in the second half with some good build-up play and touches in the box. He still isn’t match fit but he’s getting closer.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 4
He was barely involved. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang didn’t really get going and struggled to find his place in the game.
