Arsenal beat Boreham Wood 8-0 in Unai Emery’s first pre-season match in charge of the club.
It was a comfortable performance for the Gunners as 23 different players played in Unai Emery’s first match in charge. Five goals in the first-half and three in the second were enough for a comfortable 8-0 win.
Here’s how we rate the Arsenal players:
GK) Petr Cech – 6
Didn’t see a great deal of the ball. Petr Cech barely had to make a save during his half in goals.

Sub: Emi Martines (45′) – 6
Barely touched the ball.
RB) Hector Bellerin – 5
He was playing noticeably more defensively in this match. Hector Bellerin was acting far more as a right-back than as a right wing-back during this match compared to what we’ve seen from him in recent years. He played fairly well.
Sub: Carl Jenkinson (45′) – 6
Carl Jenkinson looked sharp in his first Arsenal appearance for some time.
CB) Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 5
He would have been hoping for a better start to his Arsenal career. Sokratis looked a little shaky and out of form.
Sub: Rob Holding (45′) – 6
Rob Holding did well but was rarely tested.
CB) Konstantinos Mavropanos – 7
Did well enough. Konstantino Mavropanos was hardly tested.
Sub: Shkodran Mustafi (45′) – 6
Shkodran Mustafi was fine.
LB) Jordi Osei-Tutu – 7
He’s more of a right-back but Jordi Osei-Tutu put in a solid performance on the left today.
Sub: Sead Kolasinac (45′) – 6
Sead Kolasinac played more offensively than Osei-Tutu and did reasonably well.
RCM) Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 8
Ainsley Maitland-Niles was one of the best players on the pitch in the first-half for Arsenal. The Englishman drove forward brilliantly for the second goal and had a hand in a few others too.
Sub: Calum Chambers (45′) – 6
Calum Chambers started in midfield and didn’t look overly comfortable. The Englishman’s passing range looked a little off.
LCM) Joe Willock – 6
He was the more defensive player in this midfield three and Joe Willock did well.
Sub: Aaron Ramsey (45′) – 6
Aaron Ramsey was fine.
RAM) Reiss Nelson – 8
An impressive performance from Reiss Nelson on the right wing. He was pacy, creative and put in a lot of good running to help his team.
Sub: Henrikh Mkhitaryan (45′) – 7
He played well. Henrikh Mkhitaryan linked up play extremely well.
CAM) Emile Smith-Rowe – 9
A very impressive performance from Emile Smith-Rowe. He was composed on the ball and made a lot of correct decisions to help his team.
Sub: Jeff Reine-Adelaide (45′) – 7
He played well. Jeff Reine-Adelaide grabbed a goal and looked sharp.
Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (77′) – N/A
Looked fine but didn’t see much of the ball.
LAM) Pirre-Emerick Aubameyang – 9
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will have no complaints with his first 45 minutes of pre-season for Arsenal after that hat-trick.
Sub: Lucas Perez (45′) – 7
Lucas Perez looked fairly sharp.
ST) Alexandre Lacazette – 8
Alexandre Lacazette grabbed his goal and linked up well with the rest of the front line. A good half for him.
Sub: Eddie Nketiah (45′) – 8
He grabbed his goal and an even better assist to cap a solid 45 minutes.
