Marseille v Arsenal
UEFA Champions League
Kick off: September 18, 2013 7:45 PM BST
One of the worst Arsenal performances I’ve seen in a long time, the first half was especially poor and we probably would have been punished by a better team. Improved greatly after our first goal from Walcott however, and another goal from Ramsey saw us run out winners in Marseille despite a late penalty. 2-1 to the Arsenal.

Wojciech Szczesny | 7.0: Made a number of decent, fairly routine saves, but had a couple of shaky moments.
Bacary Sagna | 7.0: Put in a good shift. As always had a lot to do with Walcott in front of him.
Laurent Koscielny | 7.0: Didn’t really make any mistakes, but you have to wonder how the defensive changes over the past week are affecting the players.
Per Mertesacker | 6.5: The usually reliable German didn’t have the greatest game, his positioning was good as usual, but he made a couple of defensive mistakes which were almost unforgivable.
Kieran Gibbs | 7.5: Arsenal’s best defender tonight, put in a great shift at both ends of the pitch and saved Mertesacker from embarrassment with an excellent goal line clearance.
Aaron Ramsey | 7.5: First half he was fairly complacent with some of his passing, but improved greatly in the second half, and his defensive work was good throughout the game. Scored our second goal and was very unlucky to concede a penalty in the dying minutes.
Mathieu Flamini | 6.5: Not his best game, not only was his passing a bit stray in the first half, but his decision making seemed poor at times, putting players in trouble with his passing.
Mesut Özil | 7.0: A lot is expected of our new signing, especially after his great performance against Sunderland. He played ok tonight, but was dispossessed a few times and had a few stray passes. As he doesn’t offer a lot defensively, more is required of him going forward, you have to wonder if he is suffering slightly from illness still.
Jack Wilshere | 7.5: One of the more consistent players throughout the game, linked up well all over the pitch. You have to wonder what position he was supposed to be playing in tonight though, he was often seen roaming leaving Gibbs exposed.
Theo Walcott | 6.5: Made a couple of good runs in the opening minutes and took the opening goal well, but was poor on the ball for most of the night and his passes rarely found their target. After the first few minutes he wasn’t making enough runs.
Olivier Giroud | 7.0: His hold up play wasn’t as good as it has been, but he was feeding off scraps tonight. Like the rest of the team did much better second half.
Nacho Monreal | 7.0: Played pretty well for the time he was on the pitch, with a couple of decent cut backs that could have resulted in goals. Offerered more of a traditional winger style threat when he came on.
Ryo Miayichi | N/A: Barely had any time to make an impact.
Thomas Vermaelen | N/A: Barely made it onto the pitch.
