Three points is three points, but we really should have been better at St James’ Park. We were playing against ten men for the majority of the game, and needed to not only create more, but take the chances we did create.
The cries for a striker will only have intensified after this display, but we are running out of time to make a signing.
Here’s how we rated the Arsenal players for their 1-0 win over Newcastle:
GK) Petr Cech – 6.0
The shot-stopper had almost nothing do, but remained alert to danger and claimed the simple balls required of him.
- Juventus to make swoop for Arsenal summer transfer target in January
- Man City loss proves club are Champions League ready claims Arsenal star
- Arsenal boss Arteta takes ‘hands on approach’ with £27m-star’s new club
RB) Hector Bellerin – 7.5 (MotM)
One of the bright sparks of the game, the Spaniard was one of the more impressive figures on the field. He was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty early on, and created a number of chances going forward.
His pace was hugely important when Newcastle looked to counter, and should have had an assist or two throughout the game.
LB) Nacho Monreal – 7.0
Another player who impressed from the full-back position, Monreal got forward well. He doesn’t offer as much of an attacking threat as Bellerin, but was solid throughout.
CB) Laurent Koscielny – 6.5
We looked so much more solid with the Frenchman back in the side, who could potentially have found a new centre-back partner in Gabriel.
CB) Gabriel – 6.5
The Brazilian was made to look a little average with Calum Chambers alongside him against Liverpool, but looked far more self assured next to Koscielny. His pace and ability to recover make us look far more secure when playing high up the pitch, and it was a solid, if uneventful, performance.
