Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Vitoria after a woeful performance in Portugal.
Team News – Match Reports – Player Ratings
Match: Vitoria v Arsenal
Venue: Estádio do Bonfim, Setubal
Kick-Off (UK Time): 15:50 06/11/2019
Here’s how we rate Unai Emery & the Arsenal players:
Unai Emery – 3
It was such a negative setup for this match. The switch to a back five may have been a form of preparation for Saturday’s match against Leicester but it was hardly a glowing review. Unai Emery’s side just couldn’t get going.
Emiliano Martinez – 7
He can be pleased with his night. Emiliano Martinez did everything that was asked of him and pulled off a couple of impressive saves in the first half.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 5.5
He did well enough. Sokratis didn’t have the busiest night but coped well enough.
Rob Holding – 5
Rob Holding captained Arsenal but it was hardly a memorable performance from him. The Englishman was sloppy in possession and a little careless defensively.
Shkodran Mustafi – 6.5
Shkodran Mustafi did well. The German grabbed the crucial goal to cap what was a decent performance. He got caught out defensively a couple of times but his teammates covered well enough.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 5.5
He did okay. Ainsley Maitland-Niles reverted back to his right wing-back position and acted as one of Arsenal’s biggest attacking threats.
Joe Willock – 5.5
He was one of the best players on the pitch for Arsenal but it was hardly a high bar. Joe Willock showed good energy in the middle of the pitch.
Sub: Lucas Torreira (78′) – 5
He was barely involved for 15 minutes.
Dani Ceballos – 4
He was fine. Dani Ceballos kept good care of the ball but rarely ventured into the final third. It was a shame to see him leave the pitch, let’s hope his injury isn’t too serious.
Sub: Matteo Guendouzi (54′) – 6
Matteo Guendouzi did well. The Frenchman worked hard and injected some quality into the midfield.
Kieran Tierney – 6
Kieran Tierney put in a decent performance down that left flank. He looks a bit better in a back 4 but still acted as a decent outlet offensively and covered his position well.
Nicolas Pepe – 5.5
Nicolas Pepe had a few flashes of quality but it was a careless performance from him. The Ivorian was a little sloppy at times despite his eagerness to make an impression on the match.
Bukayo Saka – 5
Bukayo Saka worked hard enough but things didn’t quite work out for him on the night.
Sub: Alexandre Lacazette (65′) – 4
It was a really poor 30-minute cameo from Alexandre Lacazette.
Gabriel Martinelli – 4
It was hardly his best night in an Arsenal shirt. Gabriel Martinelli just couldn’t get going as the central striker and things barely improved after he moved out wide.
