Despite being a bit of a failure at Arsenal, Lukas Podolski has achieved a bit of a cult status among fans. He cemented that status during Galatasaray’s win over Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup final, by squaring up to former teammate Robin van Persie.

While Podolski was adored by Arsenal fans following his Arsenal exit, van Persie conversely became one of the most hated ex-Arsenal players in history. His controversial switch to Manchester United made him public enemy number one among Arsenal fans, so we’re all understandably thrilled that he was put in his place a little by Podolski.

Not only did Podolski score the winning goal in the cup final, he also squared up to van Persie and we almost saw fists flying. Arsenal fans certainly appreciated it, check out the reactions on Twitter below:

It was made all the sweeter when van Persie was dragged off at half time, with the Dutchman proving totally ineffective yet again. He’s really gone down hill recently, and although Manchester United got one good season out of him, you could argue that we offloaded him at the right time.
The injury prone striker has been absolutely shocking since his move to Turkey, and his career really is in a downward spiral.
Arsenal transfer news
It would have been great to see Podolski take a proper swing at van Persie, and knowing the former Feyenoord man he’d probably snap like a twig.
