Gunners latest signing Lukas Podolski has revealed he had to think long and hard about his future with a number of impressive options presented to him, but the forward chose Arsenal as he felt it would be a the best fit.
The former Cologne striker signed papers at the end of last month to make the move to the Emirates official, and he will link up with his new team mates after Euro 2012.
The German international is happy with his decision to switch his hometown of Cologne for North London and has branded Arsene Wenger as a ‘very good manager’ which was vital in his decision. He is also looking forward to joining the positive atmosphere around the club in his quest to further his career, but admits he’s never even been to the stadium before!
The 26-year-old told Goal.com:
They have the same colours as Cologne. I’m just kidding. As I’ve told you I’ve had more offers. I want to play for a top club when I leave Cologne. If you have a look at Arsenal, they have a very good manager and they have a nice environment – no negative headlines during the last years.
They play good football and they have a great stadium with great fans. I haven’t been there before but that’s what I expect. I think the club will fit very well with me. Otherwise I wouldn’t have come to this decision.

I would like to reiterate that my decision shouldn’t be something that reflects on Cologne negatively, but rather something that reflects Arsenal positively.
For me it was a choice between staying at Cologne for a few more years, or to go to a top club.
I saw the opportunity that Arsenal were offering, and I had few other offers too. I had to think hard about what I wanted both on and off the pitch, and came to the conclusion that Arsenal was the best choice.
No negative headlines in recent years? He obviously forgot to renew his SkyTV account earlier in the season when the Gunners were pummeled by Manchester United and lost a host of world class players. But regardless of these bad times Arsenal have had the resilience to pull through and with a bit of luck they have (hopefully) qualified for Champions League football next season.
But it is extremely positive that Arsenal have managed to lure Podolski ahead of the other clubs interested and this acquisition should signal the intentions of Wenger to challenge for top honours next season and attract other top talent.
So does Podolski have the ability to perform at the top level in England? Some critics have continuously pointed out that ‘Prince Poldi’ failed to perform on the larger Bundesliga stage with Bayern, but he has matured a great deal since then and now has close to 100 caps for Germany.
Personally I believe he has the ability to produce the goods for Arsenal and will be vital cog of the attacking setup next season, what are your thoughts?
