This January when Newcastle decided to sell star midfielder Yohan Cabaye to French Champions PSG, it created quite an uproar. He was consistently one of the best performers in the side, and after selling him the Magpies have been unable to perform anywhere near expectations in the league.
But recently, the £19 million valued midfielder has said that he is unhappy in the Paris side and may be looking to return to the Premier League. The PSG team is full of stars, and thus Yohan Cabaye has been unable to cement a starting position for himself. This is a bad situation for someone of his quality, and his desire to leave has made clubs like Arsenal sit up and take notice. And although he says he doesn’t want to walk out on the French champions yet, a prolonged spell on the bench could see the 28-year-old searching for a new challenge in the not too distant future.
This doesn’t suit me. I’ve not spoken to Blanc about my situation.
I am 28 years old and not just starting out. I won’t change my style now. The coach’s choices must be respected, but I won’t quit.
I have the character and my goal is to show what I can do on pitch. I know I must play very well in order to keep my place in team.
Arsene Wenger is known for bringing talented French players to the Emirates, and the ex-Newcastle midfielder had been strongly linked to Arsenal before he chose to go to PSG. Considering that the player is unsettled, Wenger could look to rekindle his interest in the near future.
Should We Buy?

Cabaye is a central midfielder, blessed with great vision and he has a good workrate to back it up. He is also a threat from set pieces. During his time with Newcastle, he made quite a name for himself, and he has plenty of experience in the Premier League. Also, his price of £19 million will probably drop if the player hands in a transfer request, making him one of the cheapest options for Arsenal.
While normally I would say that we need to strengthen our defence first, the spate of injuries in the squad have thinned out our midfield as well. If a good deal for Cabaye is possible, it is certainly something Wenger should consider.
