BT Sport pundit Michael Owen thinks Alexis Sanchez will not be enough for Arsenal to win trophies. The striker linked heavily with Theo Walcott in the midweek Champions League clash against FC Basel to gain a 2-0 victory over the Swiss side.
Sanchez has been Wenger’s number one choice up front replacing Giroud as the lone striker this season. The Chilean had played on the wings for the Gunners last season but the Frenchman is insistent on playing him in a centre forward position this season.
Even though the 27-year-old was initially witnessed struggling in his new role, Sanchez has adapted to his new place up front coordinating skilfully with Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott.
However, Owen who shared his comments after Arsenal’s win over Basel, believes the Chile unternational cannot carry Wenger’s side to silverware all on his own.
“I like Sanchez – I think he is a better option than Walcott up front,” Owen told BT Sport.
“He’s more intelligent in his runs. But I think if Arsenal want to win the Premier League or Champions League, he’s not the answer.”

The former Liverpool and Manchester United striker is further of the opinion that the Gunners still haven’t equipped themselves with a top quality player up front and Sanchez is better playing in his original position on the left wing.
“He’s better off on the left. He scores loads of goals coming in from a different position and Arsenal if they want to win those serious trophies, they need to get a top-class man right down the middle and leave Sanchez out wide.”
Whether it is best for Sanchez to play in a wider position is yet to be seen but in the recent games Sanchez has done a fantastic job as a forward. The team dynamic appears to be working, the fluency with Walcott, Alex Iwobi and Ozil has a nice balance especially with Walcott supporting Hector Bellerin in defence much more than he ever used it.
There seems to be no problem for Arsenal winning games with their current formation, let’s prove Owen wrong.
