ESPN’s Raphael Honigstein has claimed that Bayern Munich feel they have a very good chance of signing Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez this summer (via ESPN).
It appears to be the make or break part of Arsenal’s summer. If the Gunners can keep hold of Alexis Sanchez and tie the Chilean down to a new contract then Arsenal fans can feel pretty optimistic. If not then who knows?
Well, fresh news coming out of Germany will not go down well in North London. Journalist Raphael Honigstein claims that Bayern Munich are confident of signing Alexis Sanchez.
“Bayern feel like they’ve got a very good chance of getting him,” Honigstein told ESPN before going into some of the problems for the Bundesliga champions in their pursuit of Sanchez.
“There are two sticking points. One is his wages – he wants a lot of money and while that may not be a problem, Bayern have to be careful.
“Once they pay him €20 million then Lewandowski is coming around and Muller is here and Vidal.

“Even more problematic is Arsenal’s stance at the moment. They want €50 million.
“For a player with a year left [on his contract] and €20 million on top per year, that’s not a great deal. It’s a game of chicken at the moment.
“Bayern know that Arsenal have historically never let players run down their contract so they will probably sell but they don’t know when.
“They are also hoping that Arsenal will not sell to another Premier League club because Manchester City are also interested.”
It remains to be seen whether Honigstein’s words are accurate. Alexis Sanchez does have just one year left on his contract but his importance to Arsenal cannot be understated. The ideal situation is that the player is priced out of a move to any other club and signs a new contract at the Emirates this summer.
