We’ve been heavily linked with VfL Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez recently (via the Daily Star), but were apparently facing serious competition from Real Madrid. Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane has opted to bring the on-loan Fabio Coentrao back to the Santiago Bernabeu though, with the Portuguese star set to play back up to Marcelo next season, according to Spanish publication Marca.

Rodriguez is one of the brightest full-backs around at the moment, so it’s not like Real Madrid pulling out will give us a clear run at the 23-year-old. Manchester United have also been linked with the Swiss international in the past (via the Daily Star), although with Luke Shaw at the club you wouldn’t expect them to move for another young left-back.
This definitely opens things up for us a little though, and could certainly make a move easier for us if Arsene Wenger is interested. The Daily Star’s report suggest he has a £19m release clause, which we are willing to meet in order to secure his signature.
While a new left-back isn’t a priority, Rodriguez would make a fantastic addition to the side. We’ve already signed his international teammate Granit Xhaka, and not only would signing both players help them settle in, but they could also bring a ready made partnership to Arsenal.

He hasn’t exactly been subtle about the fact that he’d like to potentially make a move to Arsenal in order to play with Xhaka (via the Express), so it seems he’s ours if we want him.
