According to Spanish newspaper MARCA, Real Madrid actually want to sell Sami Khedira to Arsenal this summer otherwise they risk losing him for free to Bayern Munich next summer.
It appeared any hope of Arsenal landing the German international had come to an end, with exuberant wages plus a hefty price tag slapped on the midfielder after a decent showing at the World Cup said to have scuppered any deal.
Pep Guardiola is said to have had some ‘quiet words’ with Khedira to convince him to see out the final year of his current deal in Madrid. Bayern Munich can then acquire him for free meaning Khedira’s representatives can also negotiate even higher wages.
The Gunners will be forced to act quickly to their man if Arsene Wenger still fancies him. Making him the highest paid Arsenal player over new signing Alexis Sanchez and star No10 Mesut Ozil seems slightly overkill however. With Arsenal acquiring the versatile Calum Chambers, Wenger may wait to test his new signing in midfield before spending big on Khedira. We do after all have Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Abou Diaby in the deeper midfield role.
If Madrid are more eager than ever to cash in on the player, then it puts Arsenal in good stead for negotiations.
