Arsenal have reportedly launched a £20m bid for Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez as Arsene Wenger begins his summer-long quest to reinforce his squad.
Barcelona have confirmed they received some offers for the Chilean star, who lit up the World Cup with some exciting performances this summer, and will consider the possibility of letting the former Udinese ace depart.
The Catalan giants are currently reshaping the squad following the appointment of new manager Luis Enrique and it appears the Chile international Sanchez is not in the long term plans of the club, especially with the club set to possibly buy Luis Suarez.
Zubizarreta, a president of Barcelona, provided an update to AS.com on Sanchez’s situation in Catalonia:
There have been offers from clubs [for Sanchez], but I don’t know how it will end. We’re looking for a solution that will be good for everybody.
According to the Express, Wenger has made a move for the highly rated attacker, but a key concern for the Gunners is Liverpool’s involvement.
A stumbling block in negotiations may be the Suarez deal, as The Reds aim to lure the Chilean to Merseyside as a makeweight for the prolific Premier League striker.

- Arsenal’s top Hector Bellerin replacement is now available for £30m
However it is believed Sanchez prefers a move to north London to work under Wenger, and hopefully this will be enough to give Arsenal the upper hand.
From Barcelona’s point of view it is about gaining as much cash as possible, so if they are able to agree the buyout clause for Suarez and then supplement some of the fee by selling Sanchez to the Gunners it will work for them. However Liverpool are tough negotiators as we witnessed firsthand last summer in our own pursuit for the biting Uruguayan.
It seems that Liverpool hold the bargaining power at this stage.
