Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry to sign Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea, as Arsene Wenger looks to add strength to the forward line, according to reports in Goal.
The report suggests that the Gunners have been in contact with the Blues about taking the Senegal striker for the rest of the season. But they face competition from Roma for Ba, who has found himself out of favor under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The Senegalese striker’s future at Stamdford Bridge has been in question with Fernando Torres believed to be Jose Mourinho’s preferred striker and Romelu Lukaku forcing his way into proceedings. The recent signing of Samuel Eto’o has all but guaranteed one striker will leave with Ba the favorite to go.
Newcastle were considered favorites to re-sign the 28-year-old, but they were put off when they were quoted a fee of £3 million just to loan him for a season. Ba earns around £80,000-a-week at Chelsea, so Arsenal have a budget that could comfortably take on those personal terms and they could even sign the Senegal international on a permanent basis.
Arsenal are also closing in on the signings of Mesut Ozil and goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano. The Gunners were interested in signing him permanently in January when he was at Newcastle United but backed out of a possible deal because they were concerned of his history of knee problems.
Ba already knows the physical demands of the league and at Chelsea and Newcastle United, has the experience to hit the ground running. He’s strong, athletic and at 6 ft 2 in could bring an imposing aerial presence for the Gunners . Ba gets on the score sheet week in week out and terrorizes Premier League defenses. He has the physicality and killer instinct that Arsenal lack on the bench.

If Arsenal are indeed interested, the Gunners would be a brilliant fit for Ba. He’d have more opportunities to play in the side at the Emirates Stadium compared to Chelsea. He would give Arsenal and Arsene Wenger plenty of options up front through the course of the season. He would also add quality on the bench or might even play Ba on the wing which will give more options to choose from.
I would be a bit surprised if Chelsea allowed Ba to go to Arsenal given that the Gunners will be battling the Blues at the top end of the Premier League table, but may be Jose Mourinho doesn’t see the north London club as title contenders?
What do you say Gunners?.Should we sign him?
