According to Goal.com, Arsenal have made their move for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini as they look to invest in proven, top quality talent this summer.
Reports have come to light that suggest Arsene Wenger will look to activate the rumoured buy-out clause that was today confirmed by the Toffees Chairman Bill Kenwright, with Manchester United also interested as David Moyes becomes the first but maybe not the last to make the switch from Liverpool to Manchester.
The afro-haired midfielder has a release clause in his current terms that allows him to move to a Champions League side who put in a bid of at least £24 million, a sum which would make the Belgian star Arsenal’s most expensive signing.
Espn reported Kenwright as saying:
I’ve said to David [Moyes]: ‘We all know the situation at Everton. We all know there’s a player who’s got an escape clause, but the others are not for sale.’
He was referring to Leighton Baines, another Everton star who has yet to move onto a Champions League side, with Moyes naturally interested in taking the defender along with him to Manchester. But Fellaini has apparently been approached by the Gunners early on as Wenger looks to strengthen the midfield with a versatile, combative midfielder.
Fellaini has operated at both a defensive role but also excelled in a more attacking position sitting behind the striker. His versatility would be ideal, and his physical and aerial presence would be a huge asset for the Gunner.
Is there any truth in the rumours? Interestingly Sky Bet’s transfer odds have been slashed signicantly from 16/1 to 1/1.

A run of bets have created the drastic drop, with a Sky Bet Football Trader claiming it is a surprise to see such a significant drop with a host of punters obviously backing the deal suddenly.
Interesting stuff, looking at the transfer odds are always another interesting method of evaluating the likelihood of deals eventuating, and now Arsenal are in pole position to sign the Belgian international.
We will keep you updated on the situation, but really it just seems all speculation after Kenwright’s comments.
