Arsenal and Manchester City are all set to battle it out for Borussia Dortmund’s Polish striker Robert Lewandowski in January, according to reports in Mirror.
The Polish forward has established himself as one of the most feared strikers in Europe over the past few seasons, and has already bagged nine goals this season. Despite being a key man at Dortmund, he is ready to allow his contract, which expires at the end of the season, run down in order to leave for free.
The 25 year-old is widely expected to sign for league rivals and European champions Bayern Munich next summer. However, he has denied reports stating he has already agreed to join Bayern Munich, and admitted that he would like to play in England saying:
I don’t think it is a real big surprise that I have expressed a desire to play in England at some point in my career.
The Premier League is one of the best and most exciting in the world because it is attractive for most of the world’s top players.
The report suggests that Arsenal remain cash rich and keen to sign a world class striker. The Gunners are repotedly prepared to pay £25 million to land Lewandowski in the January window before he becomes a free agent next summer. The move highlights Arsenal fears that they will not be able to recruit Wayne Rooney from Manchester United or Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
Despite their unwillingness to lose their star player, Dortmund have resigned themselves to the prospect of losing Lewandowski on a free transfer next summer, and so a January transfer would offer a final chance to cash in on the striker.

Robert Lewandowski is presently one of the most lethal finishers in front of the goal in Europe. He is strong and powerful striker and possesses superb technical skills, including a deft first touch which allows him to race away from his marker. He has an infinite tank of energy and raw, blistering pace and his goal scoring record indicates signing him would be a great piece of business.
Man City are also thought to be interested in the Polish striker, although there might be a reluctance to move to the Etihad considering the wealth of options in the striking position. Arsenal, however, are a little short in the striking department with Giroud the only quality option available.
Owing to our shortage up front, the Polish striker would provide the depth needed over the long Premier League season. He will be sure to have plenty of midfield maestros to supply him with top-quality service in any case!
