Arsenal are set to make a club record bid of £40 million for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
Arsene Wenger has been keen on the Real Madrid striker for some time now and is determined to lure him to North London with a bid of around £40 million. The Gunners boss is keen to respond to very vocal criticism from Arsenal fans who have demanded Wenger spends big this summer and a move for the 25 year old French international would certainly go some way to strengthening the Emirates Stadium attack.
The report states that Arsenal have been in touch with Real Madrid over the past 48 hours and are encouraged that a deal for Benzema could be feasible. It further suggests that if Real Madrid get Bale then Cristiano Ronaldo would move into the central striking spot, a tactic Carlo Ancelotti tried out in preseason.
Real Madrid have already sold a striker this summer in the form Higuain, but the coach feels that Spain u-21 striker Álvaro Morata is ready to step up into a more senior starting role. Wenger has all but given up his pursuit of Liverpool marksman Luis Suarez and will instead hope to lure Benzema away from the Bernabeu side he has represented for the past four years.
Karim Benzema scored 11 goals and tallied 11 assists in 30 La Liga appearances last season for Los Blancos. The 25-year-old Frenchman also got on the score sheet in the season opener against Real Betis on Sunday. He has a good goal scoring record and is adapt to holding the play and bring others into effect. He can easily fit into Arsenal playing style of 4-2-3-1 system and would effectively replace Robin Van Persie not only in terms of goal scoring but also his overall influence on the game.
Benzema will add the much needed fire power up front Arsenal need at the moment but it wont be so easy considering the fact that any deal will depend on the out come of Bale transfer. Bale going to Madrid might just be the only way Arsenal get their hands on Benzema, as Madrid have made it clear that they do not intend on weakening their side.

If Arsenal some how pull this deal off, we will get a quality striker and also depth in the midfield. So with just 10 days remaining in the transfer window it would be great if we can sign Benzema along with a few others. But that’s a big IF considering Arsenal’s previous history in transfer market.
