Arsenal are ready to make a late move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney later this week, according to reports in Goal.com.
The Gunners have privately been given encouragement that Manchester United could be willing to sell them England’s talisman in the last week of the window despite their public insistence that he is not for sale at any price. The Premier League champions are believed to be open to a £25 million-plus offer for the player from Arsenal.
The report further states that United are now determined not to sell Rooney to Chelsea, whose manager Jose Mourinho has given the striker until Wednesday at the latest to force through a move to Stamford Bridge. It is expected that Wenger will sanction a bid of around the £25 million mark for Rooney later this week.
Chelsea have failed with two bids for the 27 year old England man and Arsene Wenger has apparently been encouraged by the fact that his side maintain a good relationship with the Old Trafford side, who might be more willing to sell to the North London club rather than Chelsea who United feel will be their direct rivals for the League title.
Arsenal, who failed in their attempts to land Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez are now seriously pursuing Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, but it looks like we are now ready to push on with efforts to bring in Rooney.
Rooney has scored 198 goals in 401 appearances for Man United and is the club’s fourth highest goal-scorer of all time. He is a greatt striker and a versatile one too. He is the type of player can slot perfectly into Wenger’s preferred 4-3-3 formation. He can play on either wings and also through the center. His finishing ability from close range or in the box isn’t in doubt. If we sign him it will also help the team psychologically and will be a sign of intent for our rivals.

A move to Arsenal would be something of a shock if it were to go through and personally too i will be surprised to see this happen. United have insisted they don’t want to sell but it could simply come down to how badly Rooney wants to leave. If United won’t sell to Chelsea and Rooney maintains he want’s out, Arsenal could have a chance if the striker is willing to move to the Emirates.
Rooney is clearly unhappy at United because Rvp is getting all the attention, so a move to Arsenal would again make him the Marquee player of the team. Arsenal who have been looking for a Marquee signing all summer won’t get a better player than Rooney. I think Arsenal should go all out to sign him.
What do you say Gooners?
