Arsenal are reportedly close to activating the buy-back clause to re-sign Carlos Vela but will look to sell him on if the transfer goes through, according to reports in the Mirror.
The Mexican international left the Gunners on a permanent basis two years ago for around €3 million following an unsuccessful stint in north London, however he has since blossomed in La Liga and scored 21 goals while providing 13 assists last season.
The report suggests that Carlos Vela is unlikely to rejoin Arsenal, even though they have a bargain £3.5 million buy-back clause. The Gunners want to negotiate a deal for him to stay at Spanish club Real Sociedad, but if not they will take the Mexican forward back – but sell him on.
It further states that Vela and Apperibay have talked about the clause and there seemed no great desire from the player to return to London. Few other reports stated that Sociedad president is in London holding talks with Arsenal, not about the Emirates club re-signing the player, but about the Spaniard’s paying €11 million to remove our buy-back clause from his contract.

The striker’s goal return last season was just one shy of Olivier Giroud and even more impressive considering he played as the supporting striker to Antoine Griezmann. He rarely wastes chances in a one on one situation nowadays, which was a constant source of frustration from his first spell in England. His versatility to play across the whole front line as well as his ability to create multiple chances will be very appealing to the club.

The Gunners have an absolute bargain on their hands if the reported fee of £3.5 million to buy him back is indeed accurate. However, it seems strange that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is reportedly not looking to make Vela part of his squad for next season and even if we add a genuine superstar forward to support Giroud, the addition of the Mexican would make for a very decent third option in attack.
He looks as though he could be a hugely valuable player for the club despite his slightly underwhelming first stint in England. It would be worth having him, but if he’s not interested then it’s certainly a great piece of business to make £9 million profit from simply removing a buy-back clause.
