The transfer window may have ended last month but that doesn’t stop the rumours. The latest report is that the Spanish champions FC Barcelona are desperate to re-sign Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin. The 21-year-old made the move to the Gunners from the Catalan side in 2011 and has since become the club’s first choice right back.
Now the five-time Champions League winners are calling. FC Barcelona are desperate to sign Bellerin either in January or next summer, according to Spanish outlet Sport. The La Liga champions lost Dani Alves in the summer and now need a long term replacement in the position.
The paper reports that the club wants a young attacking right back, capable of holding the position in the long term and that Hector Bellerin is the perfect candidate. The Barcelona board are reportedly impressed with the way the right back has taken to first team action with such maturity.
It points out that Arsenal are looking to open negotiations with the player over a new contract in the coming months and that the potential transfer to Spain is dependent on these negotiations. Should the player refuse to sign a new deal then it would open up the possibility of a cut-price deal to the Spanish side, should he sign one and the transfer would become effectively impossible.
It’s a story which makes for grim reading for Arsenal fans. The club have history selling its key players to big sides but will hope that Hector Bellerin isn’t one of them. The right back has done exceptionally well since breaking into the first team and the club will need to tie up a contract for the player as soon as possible.
